Flags In Kentucky Ordered At Half Staff New Years Day

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin has ordered all U.S. and state flags be flown at half-staff at all state buildings on New Year’s Day.
According to a release from Governor Bevin’s office, flags need to be flown at half-staff between sunrise and sunset as a mark of respect for fallen Louisville Metro Police Department Detective Deidre “Dee Dee” Mengedoht. Detective Mengedoht was killed in the line of duty on Christmas Eve while conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 64 in downtown Louisville.
Media reports indicate Mengedoht was in her patrol car when a semi crashed into it, causing it to catch fire. The driver of the semi 60-year old Roger Burdette has since pleaded not guilty to murder and DUI in the case.
