Princeton Fire Chief Reminding Residents to Alert Authorities of Controlled Burns

A local fire chief is reminding residents to alert local authorities of controlled burns following a false alarm Wednesday afternoon.
Princeton Fire Chief Brent Francis says that firefighters responded to a call of a structure fire on Scottsburg Road, south of Princeton, around 2:30. When firefighters arrived they found a control burn of a small outbuilding.
Chief Francis is reminding citizens to call Caldwell County Dispatch when planning a controlled burn.

He notes that alerting dispatch will keep them from sending the entire fire department to a controlled burn.

Chief Francis adds that volunteer firefighters are reimbursed for each call they answer, therefore any call answered costs the city or county.

Chief Francis also says that the only things that are legal to burn are natural vegetation, like tree limbs, branches, brush, or leaves. Any type of sawed lumber, whether treated, painted, or not, is illegal to burn.
To alert officials of a controlled burn call the Caldwell County Dispatch at 270-365-7860.
