Black Carp Found In Kentucky Lake & Lake Barkley A Big Concern

Another invasive species of carp has been discovered in area lakes  that is causing concern among Fish and Wildlife and area officials.
Although the war on Asian carp has made some progress over the past several months, Lyon County Judge-Executive Wade White tells the News Edge there is another concern in Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake — black carp.

He adds they are pretty sure the black carp are in area lakes as well as the Cumberland, Ohio and Tennessee rivers. He says the black carp is not necessarily a strong presence right now, but it doesn’t take long for them to populate.
Judge White says they will need to think of ways to fish the black carp out of lakes and rivers.

He adds it is something that is on the horizon that they need to focus on and he’s glad the word is getting out to the public.
The main thing people need to know, according to Judge White, is that if you capture a black carp, you should contact the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife as soon as possible.

Judge White says the progress is going well in the war on Asian carp. Judge White adds a new pickup area in Lyon County is now accepting the fish.

He adds Lyon County wants to build a gut room so the Asian carp can be gutted in the summer to keep the fish from deteriorating and to beef it up in order to keep the focus on Lyon, Trigg, and Marshall counties to rid the area of as many of the invasive fish as possible.
