Jobless Rates Fell In 5 Pennyrile Counties In December

Unemployment rates fell in five counties in the Pennyrile District, rose in three counties, and stayed the same in one county between December 2017 and December 2018, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics.
According to a release, jobless rates rose in Caldwell, Crittenden, and Lyon counties. Caldwell County’s unemployment rate rose to 4.0 percent in December 2018, compared to 3.8 percent in December 2017, while the jobless rate in Crittenden County rose to 4.3 percent from 4.1 percent, and Lyon County rose to 4.7 percent from 4.3 percent during the same time period.
In Christian County, the jobless rate fell to 4.3 percent from 4.6 percent from December 2017 to December 2018, while Trigg County’s rate dropped to 4.0 percent from 4.7 percent, and Todd County’s jobless rate fell to 3.1 percent from 3.3 percent during the same time period.
According to statistics, Hopkins County’s unemployment rate stayed the same at 3.7 percent.
In the nine-county Pennyrile District, Livingston County posted the highest unemployment rate in December 2018 of 5.8 percent, and Todd County had the lowest jobless rate at 3.1 percent.
Across Kentucky, the jobless rates fell in 69 counties, rose in 38 and stayed the same in 13 counties. Woodford County continued to record the lowest unemployment rate in the Commonwealth at 2.6 percent, and Magoffin County continued to post the highest jobless rate at 11.3 percent.
Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
