Local Fire Department Looking for Volunteer Firefighters

As people’s lives get busier communities who depend on volunteers are having a hard time finding willing workers, including a local fire department.
Princeton Fire Chief, Brent Francis, says that it’s been a struggle over the past years keeping a fully staffed volunteer fire department.

He adds that the department currently has between 32 and 34 volunteers that answer calls on a regular basis but because the department covers the entire county they are constantly looking for men and women willing to become volunteers. However, Chief Francis warns that the job is very physically demanding.

For those interested the department provides training the second and fourth Monday for about four hours each session. Chief Francis notes that volunteer firefighters do get compensation for each call they answer but only after so many hours of training have been reached.

While the job is demanding, physically and mentally, Chief Francis says it is rewarding, being able to help make someone’s worst day better.

Chief Francis does remind any potential volunteers that it is extremely time consuming and people need to make sure their circumstances will allow them to become a volunteer firefighter.

For those interested Chief Francis says that they can call the fire station or stop by during their monthly training.

Applications can also be picked up at City Hall, located at 206 East Market Street, during their regular business hours from 8AM to 4:30PM Mondays through Fridays.
