Local DAR Chapter Inviting Community to Wear Red Friday

A local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution are inviting community members to wear red for National Wear Red Day on Friday.
Marty Presler, member of the General John Caldwell Chapter of the DAR, says that the Chapter will be at the George Coon Public Library on Friday providing heart shaped cookies and information to bring awareness to the local community about the number one killer of women in the United States, heart disease.
Presler adds that Friday is National Wear Red Day created by the American Heart Association and part of their Go Red for Women movement that implores citizens to wear red and give support to women affected by heart disease.
According to the American Heart Association heart disease is the number one killer of women, taking more lives than all form of cancer combined. Heart disease and stroke claim the lives of 1 in 3 women, a third of our mothers, sisters, and friends, and it’s time to change this fact.
While nearly 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented through education and lifestyle changes, cardiovascular diseases continue to be a women’s greatest health threat. To treat, beat, and prevent heart disease and stroke, women should understand family health history, know their five key personal health numbers to help determine risk and make healthy behavior changes like moving more, eating smart, and managing blood pressure.
Presler, and other members of the General John Caldwell Chapter of the DAR, are hoping that community members will wear red this Friday and help support those dealing with heart disease. Cookies and information about heart disease will be handed out to patrons at the library’s front desk upon checkout all day.
