Local and State Road Crews Working to Clear Roads

Local and state road crews have been working tirelessly since before dawn to clear roads after a bout of winter weather hit the area overnight.
Caldwell County Judge Executive Larry Curling says that county crews started plowing roads and laying down salt around six on Wednesday morning. He added that crews are taking advantage of the sunshine and are still out and about attempting to clear county roadways. Most well traveled roads within the county are mostly clear, but side roads and those less traveled still have a coating of snow.
Princeton Public Works Director David Sullenger says that city crews were dispatched early Wednesday morning and worked at plowing and putting down salt until afternoon. He added their biggest asset was the sunshine, which helped melt most main city roadways.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Spokesperson Keith Todd says that state road crews have been working since early this morning throughout Caldwell County, and the rest of District 2, to clear heavily traveled state roadways.
While salt and other ice-fighting chemicals have significantly reduced impact when the temperatures drop below about 16 degrees Fahrenheit the ample sunshine Wednesday will help heat pavement temperatures to melt remaining snow.
Officials do warn, however, that temperatures will drop to around ten degrees with wind chills even colder, which could cause re-freezing of any remaining snow and create slick spots. Anyone venturing out overnight is being advised to travel with caution.
