More Caldwell County History Revealed at Historical Presentation Thursday

Local citizens have another chance to learn about Caldwell County history at a historical presentation on Thursday.
Roy Gene Rogers, local historian and retired educator, says that a historical presentation about the Elkhorn Tavern, which was located between Princeton and Fredonia along what is now Skinframe Creek Road, will be held at the George Coon Public Library Thursday evening.
Rogers adds the Elkhorn Tavern was considered a gathering point for wagon trains heading west and it’s rumored that it was a safe haven for the Underground Railroad. He notes that stories are also told that one of the nation’s Presidents stayed at the Elkhorn Tavern and that the tavern even has a historical significance to the Trail of Tears.
Rogers is inviting all in the community to come to the George Coon Public Library Thursday night at six to hear about the history surrounding the Elkhorn Tavern and various other historical spots within the area.
