Even If That Sniffle Isn’t the Flu, Best to Get Your Flu Shot

A sniffle here, a sneeze there, is it the flu? Even if it’s not health officials are urging people to get their flu shots as peek flu season hits the area.
Charles Hiter with the Pennyrile District Health Department says that health officials are seeing an increase in flu numbers across the state.

Hiter adds that the best way to keep these numbers low is to, of course, get your flu shot. However, be mindful that flu shots do take about two weeks to fully get in your system.

Other than getting your flu shot the best ways to keep from getting sick yourself or spreading germs is to wash your hands or use hand sanitizer. Hiter says that when you wash your hands make sure you lather with soap, use running hot water, and sing your ABC’s. He notes that you can never use too much hand sanitizer or wash your hands too many times, especially if you care for someone elderly or very young.

Those wishing to get their flu shot can do so by visiting their local Pennyrile District Health Department, which is located at 310 Hawthrone Street in Princeton, or can schedule an appointment by calling them at 270-388-9747.
