Princeton Resident Among Team in Haiti Caught in Political Unrest

A Princeton resident was among a Tennessee mission group that was caught in the middle of political unrest in Haiti on Thursday.
According to reports from Mission Discovery, headquartered in Gallatin, TN, a team of area residents, who were traveling to Haiti on a medical mission trip, had just landed in the country when they got stuck in the middle of an unruly political riot. The van they were traveling in was attacked, the windows were broken out, and those participating in the riot even attempted to steal the luggage from the top of the van.
The team consisted of Princeton resident Chase Mitchell, Cadiz residents, Mary Hall James, Ramona Alexander and Becky Francis, and Clarksville resident Laura Lee Miracle. One team member sustained minor injuries due to the glass, but the rest were uninjured.
In posts on social media members of the team said that what happened to them in no way represents the majority of the Haitian people and that the issues they experienced are due to Haiti’s own political unrest. The posts urged people to remember that while what the team went through lasted only minutes, Haitians caught in the crossfire are forced to deal with it daily.
The team was able to get to their hotel in Cap-Haitien safely Thursday night and decided it was best to return to the states on Friday. Their plane is expected to land sometime Friday afternoon.
