Caldwell County to Receive over $500,000 to Re-surface State Roads

Caldwell County will receive over $500,000 from the state to re-surface several state roads within the county during Fiscal Year 2019.
Charlotte Cotton from the Kentucky Department of Transportation addressed the Caldwell County Fiscal Court during a regular meeting Tuesday morning about the Rural Secondary Roads Program. Cotton said that the Court is set to receive $589,647 to be used for four projects throughout the county.
She added that one of the main projects will include KY Highway 293 from the intersection of KY Highway 70 to the county line, that will also include the resurfacing of the Donaldson Creek Bridge. The other projects will include sections of KY Highway 672, KY Highway 139 North, and the intersection of KY Highway 70 and Highway 139 North.
Cotton noted that the projects are currently estimated to cost $551,348, which would allow some wiggle room for unseen contingencies.
After a motion and a second the Court unanimously approved accepting funds from the Rural Secondary Roads Program.
Cotton then said that the Court could receive $145,185 in flex funds that could either be used for county roads or for an additional state road. Cotton mentioned the additional state road would be KY Highway 126 near the intersection of Cravens Road. Magistrate District 2 Brent Stallins stated that his suggestion would be to use the funds for re-surfacing county roads.
After a motion and a second the Court unanimously approved using the flex funds for county roads.
