Caldwell County Lending Aid to Flooding in Livingston County

Caldwell County might have faired quite well against the deluge of rain over the past weeks but our neighbors haven’t been as lucky. As a result, local emergency responders have offered mutual aid to help with flood relief.
Princeton Fire Chief Brent Francis says that they went to Livingston County on Monday to help check on flooded neighborhoods.

He adds that one of Caldwell County’s light towers has also made a trip to Livingston County.

Chief Francis notes that what has really helped during these efforts is neighbors helping neighbors.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Spokesman Keith Todd says that efforts to reinforce the Smithland Floodwall made good progress on Tuesday due to nicer weather. He adds that neigborhood volunteers were joined by the Kentucky State Penitentiary Inmate Crew, jail work release volunteers, emergency management personnel, Army Corps of Engineers, Kentucky National Guard, Livingston County Road Department personnel, and KYTC employees and worked throughout the day filling sandbags. Volunteers were even surprised by Governor Matt Bevin who made a trip to Smithland to get a first-hand look at efforts to reinforce the floodwall.
