US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell Presented Award from Caldwell County Magistrate Elbert Bennett

A local county magistrate, who serves as president for a statewide association, presented a leadership award to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday in Washington, D.C.

According to a release from the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo), KACo President, Elbert Bennett, who serves as Magistrate District One in Caldwell County, and KACo President-Elect Gary Moore, who serves as Boone County Judge Executive presented Senator McConnell with the Excellence in Leadership Award in his office at the U.S. Capitol.

The award recognizes Senator McConnell’s leadership and dedication to Kentucky counties as well as the nation’s 3,069 counties, boroughs, and parishes. The award also honors his former service in Kentucky county government as Jefferson County Judge Executive from 1978-84.

Upon receiving the honor, McConnell says that the Commonwealth is well-served by the Kentucky Association of Counties, especially with the leadership of Magistrate Elbert Bennett and Judge Gary Moore. He adds that KACo’s important work helps county leaders provide essential services to families in Kentucky with both efficiency and professionalism.

Bennett expressed gratitude to McConnell for his work in helping farming communities saying that the hemp legislation in the Farm Bill is bringing hemp back to Kentucky and this will give farmers in counties like Caldwell a great option to expand.

Moore thanked McConnell for supporting measures to strengthen the state’s economy saying that the

federal support for needed improvements to the state’s infrastructure has strengthened the Commonwealth’s economy and that these investments to communities throughout the state are critical for economic development and job creation.

Moore is also serves as the National Association of Counties (NACo) second vice president.
