Kentucky Reporting “Widespread” Flu Activity

The Department for Public Health is reporting flu activity in Kentucky is still at “widespread”.
Officials indicate this is the 10th consecutive week for the highest level of flu activity across the Commonwealth. Forty-four people have died due to the flu during the 2018-19 season which began in October and lasts until May.
Department for Public Health Commissioner Dr. Jeff Howard says it is not too late for Kentuckians to protect themselves by getting the flu shot. He adds it takes approximately two weeks after getting the shot for a person to develop protection from the flu. Infection with the flu virus can cause fever, headache, cough, sore throat, runny nose, sneezing and body aches. People who develop flu-like symptoms should seek medical advice or evaluation, which can help to shorten the course of the illness or reduce its severity.
