Spring is the Time to Treat Fruit Trees for Fire Blight

The weather is finally warming up, the sun is shining bright, flowers and trees are blooming…it’s spring! And with spring comes diseases that threaten fruit trees.
Shane Bogle, Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources at the Caldwell County Extension Office, says that spring is the time to treat for fire blight.

He adds that infection occurs in the early spring before the trees fully bloom out.

Bogle notes that risk for infection can be tracked using an app on your phone.

He states that currently while the risk is low, that could change, and preventative antibiotic application should be done soon.

For more information or a pamphlet on which preventative antibiotics to use contact Shane Bogle at the Caldwell County Extension Office at 270-365-2787.
