Traffic was blocked for several hours on US 641 in Lyon County between Eddyville and Fredonia after a semi overturned early Friday morning.
Lyon County Sheriff Brent White says that deputies responded to reports of a semi rollover three miles north of Eddyville near the intersection of KY 1943 just before 4:30. He adds that investigation revealed the driver, 47-year-old Jimmy D. Wright of Marion, was traveling southbound when a deer entered his path. Wright attempted to swerve to miss the deer causing the rear tires to drop off the right side of the roadway and came in contact with a ditch.
Wright then overcorrected and traveled across the roadway, hit a driveway entrance and collided with a utility pole, coming to a rest on it’s side, with the trailer blocking both lanes of traffic.
Sheriff White notes that Wright was pinned in the vehicle but rescue crews could not get to him due to a downed live power line. Kentucky Utilities were able to shut power off to the line and Wright was removed safely from the vehicle. He sustained a minor leg injury and refused treatment at the scene.
Sheriff White states that the roadway was reopened to traffic just after seven.
Lyon County Sheriff’s Office were assisted at the scene by the Eddyville Fire Department, Lyon County EMS, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Personnel, and crews with Kentucky Utilities.
