Several Topics on the Menu For First Annual Pork and Politics

Federal tax cuts, job creation, business regulations, tariffs and trade wars, healthcare reform, school safety, and Asian Carp were on the menu at the first annual Pork and Politics in Eddyville Tuesday.
First District Congressman James Comer joined Princeton Mayor Kota Young, State Representative for District 6 Chris Freeland, Lyon County Judge Executive Wade White, Kuttawa Mayor Jimmy Campbell, and Grand Rivers Mayor Tom Moodie at The Joint BBQ Restaurant in Eddyville for an informal luncheon to give an update about each respective communities.

Congressman Comer spoke about several things happening at the federal level including recent federal tax cuts, job creation, the weeding out of excessive and unnecessary business regulations, the current tariff and trade war, and healthcare reform. On the local and regional level the Congressman expressed his pleasure of the recently passed farm bill.

Also on the more local level he mentioned that legislatures worked very hard during the last session concerning school safety, which resulted in a federal grant being gifted to the Marshall County School District.

Lastly, Congressman Comer commended Lyon County Judge Executive Wade White on his consistent press to find solutions to the Asian Carp problem and his success in securing federal funds to help in the efforts to remove the invasive species.

During his speech Mayor Kota Young emphasized the cooperation between Princeton, Fredonia, and Caldwell County governments and encouraged the leaders in attendance to do something similar in their counties.

Other topics addressed by the remaining speakers included increasing tourism and economic development, the recently acquired TVA funds, and more updates on the War on Carp.
The event was facilitated by the Lake Barkley Chamber of Commerce, which serves Caldwell, Lyon, and Livingston Counties.
