Final Totals for King’s Kitchen Food Drive Are In

The final totals have been tabulated from WPKY’s food drive to help King’s Kitchen Summer Feeding Program on Thursday.
Sheila Meeks, volunteer with King’s Kitchen, says that the community donated $6,011 in cash during the event, including a $1,000 donation from a local business. She explains that every bit of that money will be spent to purchase perishable items, such as milk and eggs, and other much needed food items throughout the summer.
Meeks adds that community food donations included 40 pounds of macaroni noodles, 60 pounds of spaghetti noodles, 14 gallons of green beans, 36 boxes of cereal, 224 individual applesauce cups, 148 individual Mandarin orange cups, 20 boxes of cheese crackers, 28 packages of cookies, 246 individual pudding cups, 35 boxes of brownie mix, 32 bottles of ranch, 6 cans of spaghetti sauce, and 5,257 sandwich bags.
She reminds the community that King’s Kitchen is a summer feeding program that provides home cooked meals three days a week during June and July to children who might not otherwise have a reliable source of food.
Meeks notes that despite the great participation during the food drive the program is still desperately in need of cheese crackers, such as Cheez-Its, Whales, or Goldfish, gallons of green beans, and cereals and cookies that are without nuts to avoid any potential food allergies. She states that the program will continue to receive donations throughout the year.
Those interested in donating needed food items or monetarily can contact Sheila Meeks at 270-625-1623 or coordinator Lee Anne Gilkey at 270-625-4627.
WPKY and everyone involved with King’s Kitchen want to extend much gratitude to all those who participated on Thursday and helped raise so much for children in need within our own community.
