Despite Low Voter Turn Out, Caldwell County Residents Let Voice Be Heard

Voter turnout was a bit low in Caldwell County during Tuesday’s Primary Election but residents still got out and let their voice be heard.
Caldwell County Clerk Toni Watson says that right at 2,000 residents showed up to polling places to vote in the election, in which the ballot held only state offices, with just at 90 absentee ballots cast, equalling to just over a 20 percent turnout. She adds that the Eddy Creek precinct saw the highest turn out at 262 voters.
Over half of the republican voters in Caldwell County who made it to the polling stations voted for incumbent Governor, Matt Bevin, and running mate Ralph Alvarado, for Kentucky Governor, with the total coming in at 428 votes, or just under 67 percent of the vote. Other Republican candidates for Governor, Robert Goforth, Ike Lawrence, and William Woods didn’t fair as well with votes coming in at 166, 12, and 33 respectfully.
On the Democratic side candidates for Kentucky Governor Rocky Adkins and Andy Beshear were neck and neck with Beshear coming out victorious with 551 votes verses 543 for Adkins. Other Democratic candidate for Governor, Adam Edelen, held his own coming in with 281 votes. Final Democratic candidate Geoff Young had a small group of supports, gaining 51 votes.
For Secretary of State on the Republican ballot Michael Adams won the county with 254 votes compared to his competitors, Andrew English at 138 votes, Stephen Knipper at 130 votes, and Carl Nett at 64 votes. On the Democratic ballot for Secretary of State, Heather French Henry won with an astounding 622 votes compared to Jason Belcher at 418, Jason Griffith at 218, and Geoff Sebesta at 43.
Democratic candidate for Commissioner of Agriculture, Robert Conway, pulled out 70 percent of the vote with 866 votes cast compared to his competitor, Joe Trigg, who received only 371 within the county. On the Republican side, incumbent Commissioner, Ryan Quarles, was victorious, gaining 528 votes compared to opponent Bill Polyniak, who received 78.
Kelsey Hayes Coots and Sheri Donahue, Democratic candidates for Auditor of Public Accounts, were also neck and neck in Caldwell County with Coots pulling ahead, 386 to 370. Other candidate, Chris Tobe, came away with 129 votes. Drew Curtis, who withdrew from the race, collected 310 votes within the county.
The Republican race for Attorney General was extremely close with Daniel Cameron coming out ahead by just seven votes, receiving 297 compared to his opponent, Wil Schroder, who received 290.
In the last race of the night Democratic candidates for State Treasurer, Micael Bowman was victorious over Josh Mers in Caldwell County, 888 votes to 291.
