Fourth District Senator Gives Legislative Update to Caldwell Fiscal Court

Fourth District Senator Robby Mills made a stop in Princeton to give a legislative update to members of local government.
At a Caldwell County Fiscal Court meeting Tuesday morning the Senator addressed Judge Executive Larry Curling and Magistrates and gave a run down on bills recently passed during the Spring Session in Frankfort. He explained that the bills recently signed into law were broken up into Tier 1 and Tier 2 Accomplishments.

Senator Mills stated that Tier 1 included the School Safety Bill, a tax fix for non-profits and community banks, several pro-life bills, and Senate Bill 150, which concerned conceal carrying without a permit. Tier 2 accomplishments included the recent funds awarded to state parks, felony expungements, bills concerning the state’s foster care system, lobbying transparency in the Executive Branch, and bills concerning things such as vaping, rape kit tracking, midwife recognition, organ donation, changes in the definition of hemp, protection of free speech on state college campuses, and ignition interlock devices for those charged with DUIs.

He also indicated that he has several things he wishes to achieve before the next legislative session in 2020, including conducting a listening tour throughout the district and being involved in study sessions for the various committees and caucuses he chairs.

The Senator noted that one of his main goals for the next legislative session would be working on tax reform through lower income taxes, higher and broader sales taxes, and changes in infrastructure taxes.
