Recently Awarded Eagle Scouts Recognized by Fiscal Court Tuesday

Three recently inducted Eagle Scouts were recognized at a county meeting Tuesday morning.
Caldwell County Judge Executive Larry Curling acknowledged Cole Sherrill, Joshua Sherrill, and Collin Shaffer, from Boy Scout Troop 87 for recently being awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, Scouting’s highest rank. Cole Sherrill earned his rank on August 9, 2018 with Joshua Sherrill earning his on March 22, 2019, and Collin Shaffer earning his on April 23, 2019.
Judge Curling added that the young men, who have been active in Troop 87 for several years, had to plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project that either benefited a school, religious institution, or other civic/nonprofit group within the community.

Cole’s Eagle Project was to help organize and coordinate two community blood drives with the West Kentucky Regional Blood Center in order to promote the importance of donating blood to citizens within the community. The blood drives were held in Princeton and Fredonia and a total of 33 pints of blood were collected, which was enough to potentially save up to 99 lives.
Joshua’s Eagle Project was to assemble and give activity care packages to residents at two local nursing homes in Princeton. These activity care packages consisted of times like puzzle books, coloring books, beaded jewelry, pens/colored pencils, artificial flowers, notepads, and more. Joshua stated that he wanted residents at these nursing homes to know they weren’t alone in the community. Most items were collected to donations and after a month he had enough items to deliver 96 care packages, 67 to Princeton Health & Rehab and 29 to Highland Homes.
Collin’s Eagle Project was building ten picnic tables for Ogden United Methodist Church. Collin noted he did the project so that his church would have tables available to do more outdoor activities on the church grounds and will no longer be required to borrow tables from others in the community.
Judge Curling explained that his intent in recognizing the young men is an effort to recognize all of those individuals in the community who are making a difference.
In Troop 87’s forty-six year history just over thirty young men have earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
