Fredonia Man Receives NAAE Outstanding Service Citation for Lengthy Ag Education Career

A local man has received an outstanding service award for his decades long work in Ag education.
According to a release, Dwayne Vinson, a Fredonia native, was honored with the National Association of Ag Educators (NAAE) Outstanding Service Citation on June 12th.
The release indicates that Vinson began his career in Agricultural Education at West Hopkins High School in 1973 and taught there until the school consolidated to form Hopkins Central High School in 2000, continuing to teach there until his retirement in 2004. During this time Vinson developed a strong agricultural education program that included classroom and laboratory instruction, leadership development through FFA, and work based learning opportunities for students. Since his retirement Vinson has been associated with Murray State University, where he has taught agriculture courses at the Hopkinsville Campus, recruited students, supervised student teachers, and worked with new teacher interns.
Vinson has also volunteered a great deal of his time to support FFA at the local, regional, state, and national levels, assisting a number of local chapters with officer elections and preparation for regional competition. He also developed an electronic version of the Kentucky FFA Treasurer’s Book and made it available to chapters across the state at no cost. His involvement in FFA didn’t end there, Vinson has also judged Parliamentary Procedure at a number of regional contests and at the State FFA Convention for over ten years.
Throughout his career and semi-retirement, Vinson has provided outstanding service to the Agricultural Education Profession, consistently going above and beyond what was asked or expected of him.
Vinson was recognized for his many many years of hard work and dedication to Ag education at a special ceremony at the Kentucky State FFA Convention in Lexington.
