Caldwell County FFA Chapter Has Great Showing at FFA Camp

Officers and Committee chairs for the Caldwell County FFA chapter attended an FFA Camp at the Kentucky FFA Leadership Training Center the week of June 24th through 28th in Hardinsburg, brining home several honors.
According to a release Caldwell County FFA President Kylie York and chapter member Noah Peake received the FFA Leadership Awards, or the highest honor a camper can receive at FFA camp. The release indicates that only ten percent of campers are eligible for the FFA leadership award. These awards are based on evaluation ballots submitted by teachers from four different classes and the athletic group leaders.

The release states that during the week long camp each member attending enrolled in and participated in classes that dealt with the duties and responsibilities of their office, as well as classes that dealt with the organization and operation of an FFA chapter. Members also had the opportunity to participate in special interest classes which included, but weren’t limited to, Ag Issues, Livestock Judging, Archery, Tractor Driving, SAE, Parliamentary Procedure, Communications, and more. Caldwell County FFA Member Dylan Adams won the week’s tractor driving competition and will travel back to camp later in July for the state championship.

Also during camp, campers could participate in several sporting activities and three Caldwell County members were named Camp All Stars, Cole Smiley in basketball, Kaylee Brown in volleyball and Emily Kirk and Aaron Ziobro in softball. Ziobro also won the camp diving competition. The members were chosen from around 400 campers who participated in the sporting activities.

Also according to the release another camp activity was the waterball competition, which is similar to the game of basketball, but is played in 4-5 feet of water. The chapter waterball team consisted of Cole Smiley, Aaron Ziobro, Noah Peake, Dalton Haney and Dylan Adams. Caldwell’s team won several rounds of competition but lost the championship game, by 1 point, to Lincoln County.
Caldwell County also participated in the volleyball tournament as well, but lost in the third round to Meade County 11-13.
Attending members also participated in several other activities including daily discussion with fellow chapter members, ropes course, flag raising and lowering ceremonies, camp wide sessions that included motivational speeches and presentations, and more.

Committee chairs and other members that attended camp included Dylan Adams, Destiny Mitchell, Dalton Haney, Sydney Newton, Noah Peake, Emily Kirk, Aaron Ziobro, Shelby Lane, Bryce Thompson, Olivia Boaz, Cole Smiley, Bella McConnell, Kathryn Eldridge, Kyla McGowan and Nicole Cravens.
