County Discontinuing Roads to Improve Public Safety

County officials are working to improve public safety by removing portions of rural roads within the county.
Earlier in the spring a committee comprising of Caldwell County Fiscal Court members and county residents investigated any potential inconveniences in closing portions of three roads across the county following complaints by local citizens.
A public hearing was held on April 23rd to consider the removal of .4 miles of Old Cobb Road and .082 miles of Jacob’s Lane, which rendered no indication of potential hardships should the roads be discontinued. The discontinuance of both sections were then approved by the Court on May 28th.
Another public hearing was held on June 11th, this one concerning the discontinuance of .15 miles of Victor Hillyard Road, which provided no potential hardships. On July 9th the Court approved the removal of the road from the county road system.
The determined portions of all three roads will no longer be under county maintenance with pavement and drainage ways removed from the system.
Judge/Executive Larry Curling, and other members of the Court, stated that it was their hope to improve the general safety and welfare of the public by removing the roads, which are located in rural parts of the county and could invite illicit activity.
