Fire Chief Reminding Residents of Importance of Smoke Detectors

Local officials are reminding residents to consistently check and update their smoke detectors following a house fire that could have been disastrous had it not been for the family’s smoke detector.
Princeton Fire Chief Brent Francis reminds residents to begin a habit of routinely testing their smoke detectors and replacing the batteries.

He adds that it’s a good idea to replace smoke detectors every five to ten years.

Chief Francis notes that the best way to protect your home with smoke detectors is to invest in interconnected ones.

He explains that fires such as the early morning fire on Monday are potentially fatal because of where the fire originated. Chief Francis states that fires that spark outside the home or in the attic are the most dangerous as the fire can become fully involved before a smoke detector is tripped. He expresses that the family was extremely fortunate that their smoke detector was placed in a good location and was able to alert them in enough time.
