George Coon Public Library Serves Over 60,000 People

The George Coon Public Library had another great year, seeing over 62,000 guests walk through the doors.
At a Caldwell County Fiscal Court meeting Tuesday morning Library Director Nichelle Faughn stated that the library currently has around 5,400 library card holders, 4,416 registered computer users, and 3,440 registered wifi users and circulated 49,346 items throughout the year. She added that the library also facilitated around 350 programs that were attended by over 8,500 people, opened the auditorium to almost 200 non-library related groups, and had almost 2,000 guests visit the Glenn Martin Genealogy Library.
Faughn notes that the library has also seen several updates over the past year, including new computers, an expanded collection of large print and audio books for those with visual impairments, and a new fully operational elevator.
She also announced that the Library Board has decided to take the compensating tax rates for 2019, which are set at 5.8 for real property, 7.88 for personal property, and 3.7 for motor vehicle tax.
Faughn also reminded the Court about several other programs the library is a part of including Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which sends a free book every month to every child five and under who signs up. She expressed that the program currently has just over 300 children participating in Caldwell County.
