City of Marion Awarded Over $100,000 in Discretionary Funds

The City of Marion has been awarded over $100,000 in discretionary funds to address critical pavement improvements. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Department of Rural and Municipal Aid Commissioner Gray Tomblyn II announced the awarding of funds at a city council meeting Tuesday.

The awarded funds will help the city complete pavement resurfacing along Country Club Drive and Industrial Drive.

Officials state the $150,000 in discretionary funds support Gov. Matt Bevin’s commitment to prioritize transportation infrastructure projects and increase economic opportunity in communities across the Commonwealth.

Marion Mayor Jared Byford expressed that the streets in need of repairs carry substantial commuter and truck traffic going to and from local industries and thanks to the direction, support, and financial assistance from the state, the city will be able to improve streets that are vital to their community. Mayor Byford noted that the streets serve as vital routes for the city’s school buses, health care employees and patients, and industrial traffic. Three of Crittenden County’s schools, as well as its hospital and associated health care facilities, a county fire station, and entrances to two industries are along the roadways approved for funding. The two streets also serve more than 20 homes and five businesses.
