Caldwell Extension Office Offers Tips on Fighting Fungus Gnats

Agents at the Caldwell County Extension Office are hoping to help plant owners deal with an annoying pest that tends to find its way into homes during the winter months.
Shane Bogle, Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources, says that as the area moves past the first frost date and people start bringing their plants indoors, they could unknowingly be bringing in some future unwanted house guests that resemble other annoying insects.

He does state that while the fungus gnats are not harmful to pets or people they could destroy the root life of potted plants and cause annoyances in your home throughout the winter. He adds that there are a few monitoring tools to help home and plant owners discover if they have fungus gnats before they become a nuisance.

Bogle notes that if evidence of the fungus gnats are found there are several methods of controlling them.
