Caldwell County Recanvass Shows No Change

All 120 county board of elections convened Thursday morning to recanvass the gubernatorial results from the General Election. The recanvass is being conducted after Governor Matt Bevin filed a written request with the Secretary of State’s Office the day following the November 5th election for Governor/Lt. Governor. Unofficial totals from the election showed over 5,000 votes separated Bevin from Governor-Elect, Attorney General Andy Beshear.
Caldwell County Clerk Toni Watson says that her office held the recanvass at nine Thursday morning but found no difference in results. She adds that after going through each tape from each precinct in the county all numbers matched up with those they sent the state.
Watson notes that the results from the recanvass will be sent to Frankfort to certification.
Several other surrounding counties are also reporting no changes in their recanvass results, including Christian County.
Secretary of State Allison Lundergran Grimes announced Wednesday that all recanvass results will be displayed online at sos.ky.gov. According to state officials, the last statewide Kentucky election recanvass took place in 2016 following the Democratic Presidential Primary at the request of Bernie Sanders, due to the margin being less than 2,000 votes. However, that recanvass did not change the outcome of the election.
