Emergency Officials Remind Motorists to Drive with Caution During Expected Winter Weather

With a bout of wintery weather precipitation expected to move through the area Monday night into Tuesday morning local emergency officials are reminding motorists to use caution on slippery roads.
Officials with the Caldwell County Office of Emergency Management say that with the cold front, which is expected to lead to temperature drops of over 30 degrees, light rain could turn into a mixture of snow and sleet, which may cause slippery roadways for the overnight and early morning commute Tuesday. They add that while no significant snow or sleet accumulation is expected, since ground temperatures are still rather warm, slight dustings may occur on elevated surfaces and grassy areas.
Officials state that even though significant accumulation is not predicted road conditions have the potential to deteriorate quickly during the overnight hours when temperatures drop below freezing. They suggest driving slow, allowing extra commute time to get to your destination, and leaving plenty of room between your vehicle and others sharing the roadway with you.
Temperatures are forecast to reach above freezing Tuesday but skies will stay cloudy, however, the sun will return on Wednesday with temps reaching above 40. Possible rain doesn’t make another appearance in the forecast again until the weekend but temperatures will be in the low 50s.
