Princeton Woman Facing Murder Charges Following Stabbing Incident

A Princeton woman is facing murder charges following a stabbing incident early Wednesday morning.
Princeton Police Chief Chris King states that officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the alley behind 114 Ratliff Street just before six. He adds that when officers arrived they found the victim, 43-year-old Matt Smothers, in the backyard of the residence with a stab wound to the left leg.
Chief King notes that a witness told officers Smothers’ estranged wife, 42-year-old Kimberly D. Smothers, had shown up at the residence and an argument ensued. The argument is believed to have escalated when Kimberly Smothers pulled a knife and allegedly stabbed Matt Smothers in the leg before fleeing the scene on foot.
Matt Smothers was transported to Caldwell Medical Center ER by Caldwell County EMS where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Chief King reports that Kimberly Smothers was taken into custody around 6:42 when she returned to the scene. She was charged with murder and was lodged in the Caldwell County Jail.
