Unemployment Rates Rose In 6 Pennyrile Counties In November 2019

Unemployment rates rose in six of the counties in the Pennyrile District and fell in three counties between November 2018 and November 2019, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics.
The jobless rate rose during that time period in Caldwell, Christian, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Trigg counties.
Muhlenberg County reported the highest jobless rate in November 2019 at 6.0%, up from 5.1% in November 2018, followed by Christian County with the second-highest unemployment rate at 4.8%, up from 4.1 percent.
In Caldwell County, the jobless rate was 4.4% in November of last year, compared to 4.0% in November 2018.
Todd, Trigg, and Hopkins counties all reported a 3.8% unemployment rate in November 2019. Todd County’s jobless rate rose from 2.9%, while Trigg County’s rate was up from 3.6%, and Hopkins County’s rate rose from 3.5%.
The unemployment rate fell in Crittenden County in November 2019 to 3.8% compared to 4.5% in November 2018. The jobless rate also dropped in Livingston County to 4.5% from 5.1%, and in Lyon County to 4.1% from 4.7% during this time period.
Statewide, unemployment rates rose in 95 of Kentucky’s 120 counties, fell in 18 and stayed the same in seven counties.
Fayette and Oldham counties recorded the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 2.9 percent each, while Magoffin County recorded the highest unemployment rate at 12.7 percent.
Statewide the comparable unemployment rate for November 2019 was 3.8% and 3.3% for the nation.
Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually count people working. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for work within the past four weeks.
