UPDATE: Portion of South Jefferson Street Reopened

A portion of South Jefferson Street was closed to traffic for several hours following a gas leak Thursday morning.
Public Works Director David Sullenger says that crews were called to the intersection of South Jefferson Street and Legion Drive just after 9:30 for reports of a small gas leak in the area. He adds that a construction group working to install new fiber optic internet lines had been drilling when they struck the line.

Sullenger notes that Atmos Energy crews were on scene for over five hours as they worked to shut down the line and repair it. He states that a portion of South Jefferson Street was shut down from the intersection of Legion Drive beside the Circle K Convenience Store to the other side of the railroad underpass, until just after three.
Both lanes have now reopened to traffic and the site is clear.
