KY House To Consider Bill Tightening Sex Offender Limits

State Rep. Savannah Maddox (R-Dry Ridge) presenting the bill to the committee for a vote

A bill that would tighten sex offender limits cleared a Kentucky House committee Wednesday.
State Representative Savannah Maddox (R-Dry Ridge) sponsored House Bill 204 and said it is specifically written to ban future registered sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of publicly-leased playgrounds and from entering those playgrounds without advance written permission.
Officials note the prohibitions would not apply retroactively, but would instead apply only to sex offender registrants added to the state’s sex offender registry after House Bill 204 takes effect, should it become law.
The law in Kentucky currently prohibits registered sex offenders from entering the grounds or living within 1,000 feet of schools, licensed daycare facilities, or publicly-owned playgrounds.
House Bill 204 now goes to the full House for its consideration.
