The Caldwell County Special Olympics Basketball Team is heading to the state tournament in March.
Coach Roy Gene Rogers says that the Caldwell Blue team defeated McCracken County 28-10 and Christian County 26-17 during the Region 1 Basketball Tournament Saturday in Bowling Green. He adds that the Gold team played their best game of the season but fell short to Murray, however they will be participating in skills and drills during the state contest. Cheerleaders for the team will also have an opportunity to attend the competition.
According to reports basketball is one of the most popular Special Olympics Kentucky sports offerings in the state with 1,300 athletes competing on 116 teams statewide this year alone.
Rogers notes that the Caldwell Blue team will represent the first region in the Red Division at the state tournament in Louisville March 14th and 15th.
