UPDATE: “Superload” Travels Through Caldwell Friday

A slow-moving “Superload” that first entered the area Wednesday is now on it’s way out.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says that the “Superload” traveled along KY 120 through Marion, then south along U.S. 641 through Fredonia and Eddyville, Friday morning and early afternoon. Around 1PM the “Superload” continued southward on KY 93 with original plans to reach Cadiz and stay overnight in Trigg County, to later make its way into Tennessee on Saturday. Todd reports that as of 4PM Friday the load was forced to stop near Cerulean following mechanical issues and is now expected to be delayed throughout the weekend.

Todd states that the “Superload”, which is a 195 foot long truck, escorted by several support vehicles, is hauling an 17 foot tall, almost 400,000 pound load, from near Cincinnati, OH, to Aberdeen, Mississippi. He adds that due to the height of the load, the truck has had to move along mostly rural routes to avoid highway overpasses, making it something akin to moving a house.
Todd notes that the multi-axle truck normally moves at about 5 miles per hour and due to the larger dimensions of the load the effort required to help the Superload maneuver through the area created, and still has the potential to create, significant traffic delays.
