Officials Using Modified Unified Method In War On Asian Carp

Officials discussed another way they are working to fight the War on Asian Carp that is taking place at Kentucky Lake.
U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, U.S. Congressman James Comer, and Governor Andy Beshear were on hand Monday morning for a demonstration of the Modified Unified Method at the Hillman Ferry Campground in Lyon County.

Allan Brown, Assistant Regional Director for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reports the method along with the bio-acoustic fish fence (BAFF) at Kentucky Lock and Dam will help to greatly reduce the number of Asian Carp in the region.

McConnell adds the collaboration between local, state, and federal agencies is helping to solve the issue.

Comer says the efforts put in at Kentucky Lake are already starting to show some great results.

Governor Beshear notes Kentucky is not the only state dealing with this invasive species.

Beshear says he will continue to do what he can to help the progress being made.

Lyon County Judge/Executive Wade White was also on hand to publicly thank the many commercial fishermen who are also helping to tackle the Asian Carp issue.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources along with the U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, Tennessee Valley Authority and other partners have participated in the month-long Modified Unified Method designed to remove larger numbers of Asian carp from two embayments at Kentucky Lake.
