The superload, parked near Wallonia since last Friday, is expected to resume travel through portions of Trigg County Monday.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says the crew anticipates being on the road sometime around 9:00 Monday morning.
He notes the crew has a permit to move from a parking spot at Seven Springs Farms southward along Kentucky 276 to U.S. 68 and travel west to Cadiz. The superload will then take KY 139/South Road into Tennessee. Todd says the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is in the process of approving permits for a travel route along mostly 2-lane highways through west Tennessee into Mississippi.
The superload left near Cincinnati, Ohio twelve days ago on it’s way to Aberdeen, Mississippi. A dozen support vehicles are escorting the 195-foot long truck with a 19-axle trailer that is hauling an oversized chemical storage tank. Due to the height of the load, Todd says the truck has to move along mostly rural routes to avoid highway and interstate overpasses.
Todd indicates the superload normally averages about five to ten miles per hour on the road. Last Friday before stopping near Wallonia for regular maintenance and repairs, he notes the crew took about four hours to move about 50 miles through parts of four counties.
Todd says motorists who encounter the load on the road should use appropriate caution and follow directions of the escort crew and police.
