11th Annual Polar Plunge for Special Olympics

The 11th annual Polar Plunge into Kentucky Lake is quickly approaching and the Caldwell County Special Olympics team is hoping to be joined by community members that will take the plunge and help raise much needed funds.
Team Captain Melinda Woolsey says the annual fundraiser will be held Saturday, March 7th with events beginning around 8AM at the Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park in Gilbertsville. She adds that the team’s theme this year is the “Snack Pack” and they are still looking for more team members.

Woolsey states that the Plunge works much like a walk-a-thon with Polar Bears each raising a minimum of $75 to earn the right to jump, or run, into the lake. For those not wanting to plunge but are interested in participating in the event there is the Polar 5K, which will run through Kentucky Dam Village State Park, and has an entry fee of $40.
Woolsey notes that sign up is easy and can be done online.

With registration every Polar Bear will receive a Polar Plunge T-shirt and Club Certificate. Events begin Saturday at 8AM with day-of check-in, followed by opening ceremonies at 10AM, 5K at 10:45AM, and the Plunge at 11:15AM.
