Girl Singer: The Story of Rosemary Clooney Tuesday at Library

Community members are being reminded of a great opportunity to hear the story of one of the most well-known Kentuckians who trilled audiences both as a beautiful singer and a silver screen starlet.
George Coon Public Library Director Nichelle Faughn says that they will be hosting “Girl Singer: The Story of Rosemary Clooney” on Tuesday, March 10th beginning at 6PM in the library’s auditorium. She adds that the program will be much like the Chautauqua Speakers programs that have actors and actresses portray a character from Kentucky’s history.
Faughn notes that actress Rachel Lee Rogers will portray Clooney, who was born in Maysville in 1928 and rose to prominence in the early 50s with the song “Come On-a My House.” Clooney had several more hits throughout the 50s and 60s and went on to star in 1977’s “White Christmas” with Bing Crosby, continuing to record music until her death of lung cancer in 2002.
The show, which is free and open to the public, will be a great experience for those interested in history and the legacy of one of Kentucky’s most beloved stars.
