Governor Recommends Schools Cease In-person Classes

Governor Andy Beshear is recommending superintendents in Kentucky consider ceasing all in-person classes for an extended period of time beginning Monday, March 16.

Beshear is recommending classes cease for an extended period of time to help stop the spread of Covid-19, the Coronavirus in communities across the state.  The Governor said while children seem to be relatively safe from the virus, they are able to spread it.  He added taking this step will help protect all Kentuckians.
As of 5pm March 12 Governor Beshear confirmed two new positive tests for Coronavirus have been confirmed in Kentucky.  One has been confirmed in Fayette County, with a presumptive positive in Jefferson County.  Both patients are believed to be isolated, one at home and one at a hospital.  Thursday 27 cases were tested, with all the results not back prior to Governor Beshear’s news conference.
Kentucky school districts can choose to utilize the Non-traditional Instruction days during the time schools are closed if the school district has been approved to do so by the Kentucky Department of Education.
