UPDATE: Caldwell County Schools to Close Amid COVID-19 Concerns

Caldwell County Schools will be following Governor Andy Beshear’s recommendation to temporarily close amid coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns.
Superintendent Nate Huggins states that all schools will be closed from March 16th through March 27th with plans to reevaluate the extended closure at the end of this time. He adds that all after school activities, or any activities that are scheduled to take place on campus, have also been canceled during the extended closure.
The decision was made during a special called Board of Education meeting Friday evening. During the meeting Superintendent Huggins expressed that earlier in the day he was very adamant that students stay in school because no cases had been confirmed in western Kentucky, but a call from the Kentucky Commissioner of Education lead to the reevaluation of that decision.

Board Chairman Tim Kennedy stated that while he would agree with the Superintendent’s choice he wished state leadership would have been more clear in their directives.

School officials note that during the extended closure they will be delivering two meals a day to students and will also deliver classwork to students who do not have internet access to receive their assignments. A one-call will go out Sunday with directions on how parents can sign their child up to receive meals for the duration of the closure.
All faculty and staff are expected to report for duty as normal.
