Walmart is taking additional steps to ensure the safety of its employees and customers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Beginning Saturday, corporate officials announced the number of customers will be limited inside the store at one time. Stores will now allow no more than five customers for every 1,000 square feet at a given time, roughly 20 percent of a store’s capacity.
To manage this restriction, officials added store employees will mark a line at a single-door entry (in most cases the Grocery entrance) where arriving customers will be directed and then admitted one-by-one and counted. Officials say store employees and signage will remind customers of the importance of social distancing while they are waiting to enter the store — especially before opening in the morning.
Officials indicate once a store reaches its capacity, customers will be admitted inside on a “1-out-1-in” basis.
In addition, corporate officials say stores will be instituting one-way movement through aisles next week in a number of their stories, using floor markers and direction from store employees.
