State Working to Ease Unemployment Claim Overload

With Governor Andy Beshear continuing his call to Kentuckians to apply for unemployment benefits, the state agency tasked with processing those claims continue to be overwhelmed.

Josh Benton of the workforce development cabinet says additional people have been added to help to take claims over the phone.

Benton said denial letters were sent out by the state recently to some people who applied for benefits. He said to ignore them.

Benton said some people who filed for benefits should start receiving automatic payments from the state.

Benton also said the 13-week extension date will be pushed back and persons who have had their insurance expire will be notified soon about how to reopen their claim.
