Mowing Crews To Start Work Along I-24 Tuesday

Motorists traveling Interstate 24 need to be aware Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews and contract mowing crews are continuing to move across the twelve counties in District 1.
Spokesman Keith Todd says the mowing crews will begin near the Ohio River Bridge Tuesday and work eastward to the 70-mile marker at the Trigg-Christian County line. They will start with litter removal along the interstate with mowing to follow. He says this crew will only be mowing the median and a 16-foot strip along the shoulder of I-24, so the crew will be able to progress more quickly than usual.
According to Todd, mowing zones will be marked by appropriate signage and should be treated the same as other work zones. Drivers are urged to slow down and watch for slow-moving tractors and support vehicles that may be required to travel into and across travel lanes from time to time as they go about their work. He says motorists should also be mindful of personnel working in close proximity to traffic flow in areas with ongoing mowing or litter removal activities.
In addition, Todd wants to remind everyone that political signs and other advertising are not allowed along state right-of-way and should be removed.
In addition to the contract mowing crews, Todd says state crews are continuing to mow along U.S. Highways and rural secondary highways in many western Kentucky counties.
Mowing crews will have active work zones across the region for about the next month, weather permitting.
