Kentucky Awards Medicaid Managed Care Provider Contracts

Governor Andy Beshear and Cabinet for Health and Family Services Secretary Eric Friedlander announced the state has awarded the Medicaid Managed Care Organization contract to five companies.
Governor Beshear said during his Friday news conference the companies include Aetna, Humana, Molina Healthcare, UnitedHealthcare, and WellCare. He adds Aetna will also serve children in Kentucky SKY, the Medicaid risk-based managed care delivery program for the state foster care program and the Department for Juvenile Justice.

The governor says he was not involved in the scoring that is based on certain criteria.

Passport Health Plan has been administering Medicaid benefits in the state since 1997 and was not included in the latest contract. Passport released a statement Friday afternoon saying they plan to protest the decision.
Passport Health Plan is owned by Evolent Health, the University of Louisville, Norton Healthcare, and other Kentucky-based providers and serves around 300,000 residents.
The contract for each company will expire on December 31, 2024.
In his daily update, Governor Andy Beshear confirmed 283 new cases of COVID-19, which is the highest single-day total since May 5, when an outbreak was reported at the Green River Correctional Complex. The governor adds 3,231 people have fully recovered from the virus. Nine new deaths were announced Friday, with six confirmed in Butler County. The statewide death toll now sits at 418.
