Motorists who routinely travel along Interstate 24 in Caldwell, Lyon, and Trigg counties need to be aware of an eastbound traffic shift that is scheduled to be in place until Labor Day.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District One spokesman Keith Todd says work to shift traffic in the existing work zone between the 52 and 69 mile markers began around nine Tuesday morning to establish two-way traffic along the westbound lanes, which are already restricted to one lane with a median barrier wall. He adds the two-way traffic will allow for reconstruction of concrete pavement along the eastbound lanes.
Todd states the eastbound traffic shift creates a 12 foot maximum load width restriction for eastbound trucks while westbound lanes have a 15 foot load width restriction. There will be marked exit points for loads that exceed these restrictions and ramp crossovers have been constructed for the KY 139 Cadiz-Princeton exits.
Todd notes once reconstruction of the eastbound driving surface is complete additional concrete pavement repairs are planned along westbound lanes with a target completion date of November 30th for all work.
This work zone includes a strictly-enforced 55 mile per hour speed limit with an enhanced enforcement presence and motorists are being asked to use both patience and caution in this work zone as work continues.
