Sheriff Barnes to Resign from Trigg County Sheriff’s Office

Trigg County Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander announced Thursday morning the resignation of Sheriff Jason Barnes.
In a statement to the News Edge, Alexander says the resignation letter from Barnes was presented to him Wednesday and is effective Monday, August 31.

Alexander says the next step is to find someone to fill the position.

The resignation comes after the announcement that Kentucky State Police and FBI were investigating the sheriff’s department in mid-June. No details have been released on the investigation or any possible charges.
Barnes was elected sheriff of Trigg County in 2018 after defeating two-term Sheriff Ray Burnam in the Republican primary.
In addition, Alexander announced during the June 20th Trigg County Fiscal Court meeting that Major Jimmy Godair had resigned from the department. No official word has been released as to why he left.
This is a developing story and the News Edge will have more information when it becomes available.
