Kentucky State Police Hiring Telecommunicators

Kentucky State Police (KSP) are seeking to fill several full and part time telecommunicator positions at 14 various post locations across the Commonwealth.
KSP Spokesperson Sergeant Josh Lawson says the agency is experiencing an unprecedented level of telecommunicator vacancies due to retirements and attrition but assures Kentuckians the staffing shortage has not impacted emergency service response time at post level. He adds KSP Telecommunicators handle dispatch duties for Kentucky State Troopers, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Wildlife Conservation Officer, as well as other emergency service agencies throughout the state.
Most importantly, Sergeant Lawson notes telecommunictors are the calming voice on the other line when someone calls 911. Last year KSP Telecommunicators answered 2.1 million calls resulting in 500,236 requests for assistance. Those who are interested in becoming a KSP Telecommunicator must have excellent communication skills, the ability to handle extremely stressful and challenging conditions, the ability to learn and adapt, especially in the areas of technology, and must be a high school graduate. Potential applicants must also be willing to have flexible work schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Sergeant Lawson states the next five-week paid KSP Telecommunicators Academy is set to begin on September 14 with an expected graduation date of October 16.
