Trigg County House Fire Leads To Murder Investigation

A Trigg County woman’s death is being investigated as a murder after her body was found in a home on Will Jackson Road Thursday morning.

Kentucky State Police say 81-year-old Ilene Barnett was found inside her home following the fire that began shortly after midnight.
Police say an autopsy was performed Friday morning at the state medical examiner’s office in Louisville and her death is being ruled as murder.
Law enforcement believes she died before the fire and that the fire was set intentionally.
Trigg-Lyon firefighters were called to the report of a house fire in the area of the 6000 block of Will Jackson Road near the Reddick Pond Road intersection. The home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
The home is reported to be a total loss along with a car that was parked next to the home.
Kentucky State Police and state fire marshals from Bowling Green are continuing to investigate the blaze.
Police ask if you have any information regarding Barnett’s death to contact Kentucky State Police Post 1 at 270-856-3721
